Moog hosts supplier summit in Salt Lake City

Moog recently hosted a Supplier Summit to the Salt Lake City facility. The summit, featuring 12 companies based in the Australian state of Victoria, was part of a broader Trade Mission coordinated in conjunction with Lockheed Martin and the Victorian State Government.

The purpose of the summit was to connect Victorian based companies with decision makers and business leaders within Moog’s Defence & Aerospace business.  The comprehensive program, which included guided facility tours and supplier capability pitching sessions, achieved much in developing relationships and creating awareness of the proficiency and capacity of Australian industry. The cultivation of such international supplier relationships will be key as we seek to create diversification of Moog’s supply chain by creating export opportunities for Australian based suppliers.

“The supplier Summit was part of a 6-month collaborative effort with the Victorian Government utilizing the Moog Global Supply Chain Team to create awareness of the capabilities of Australian Suppliers, especially those in Victoria, where Moog is based. There is a vibrant Defence ecosystem in Victoria, which is Moog is honored to be part of. “Said Bryan O’Connor Moog Australia GM.

“The Victorian Defence Sector is an important part of the States’ economy – with an annual contribution of AU$10.9 billion in direct expenditure, and AU$4.9 in Gross Value-added benefits across the supply chain.  Events such as the Moog Supplier Summit offer a unique opportunity to Victorian SMEs to understand more the needs of a Major prime and how the SME community can become part of their supply chain” said George Di Scala Deputy Director, Trade | Global Victoria

“The energy and enthusiasm in the room was palpable. The A0 supplier posters in particular created significant interest and some great connections were made as a result of the engagement throughout the day.  Collaboration opportunities and RFQs were identified through the interaction and discussions held, further illustrating the success that the day achieved. The event was timely as it followed the Global Supply Chain Programs’ first export contract award to an Australian company. Melbourne based ANCA Machines have been contracted to design and manufacture a grinding machine for Moog Military AG in Torrance. A great first win for the GSCP program and all involved”. Said Neil Fitzpatrick Director of Industry Development for Moog Australia.

The GSCP team will be gathering all the information from the event and will work with our colleagues in the US to develop RFI/RFQ packages for Australian suppliers over the next few weeks - so more to come, watch this space!

Special thanks to the Moog SLC team for hosting us during the visit. We received amazing feedback from the Australian companies, the Victorian State Government and the crucially, the customer - the Australian Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance group (GWEO). Overall, this activity was a true example of Moog collaboration and teamwork across the board, well done to all.
