The Advantages of New Proportional and Servovalves with Integrated Digital Electronics

The paper presents a new generation of proportional and servovalves with integrated digital electronics. The micro controller allows with its free programmable signal processing options a significant improvement of the dynamic and static performance of the valves. Selected examples demonstrate these improvements. In addition to the performance the valves could be changed from simple hydraulic components to intelligent axis control devices, which are state of the art and are able to compete against electric drive systems. These additional features like self diagnosis, remote access, comfortable control parameter tuning and free programmable characteristics are demonstrated in selected application examples like a wind turbine or an injection molding machine.

Low Noise, Increased Reliability, Digital Control: A New Generation of Radial Piston Pumps

Low noise, greater reliability, easy control options are demands on modern piston pumps. To lower both the noise emission and the high and low-pressure pulsation, the number of pistons of a radial piston pump (RKP) is increased from 7 to 9. By means of CFD and FE calculation the suction path of the RKP is optimized as a compromise between hydraulic (low pressure drop, small inductivity) and mechanic (small deformation, low stresses) functionality. Pressure drop along the suction path was reduced by 20%. The sound emission of the new radial piston pump generation was reduced by up to 5dB(A) in sound power that corresponds to a reduction of wide more than 50%. A new stroke ring design eliminates a possible place of wear. The DCP (Digital Interface Pump) is a new servo radial piston pump adjustment based on a new pilot valve with digital onboard electronics offering an enhanced functionality.

New Approach for High Performance Motion Control

Closed loop control of hydraulic or electric systems offers an excellent means of achieving precision movement with big loads and high forces. However, hydraulic servo drives in particular have a lot of anomalies, e.g. non linearities and low damping, which in some applications makes these systems demanding to control. In such cases advanced control features are required in order to get the specified performance out of the drive.

Developments in High Performance Proportional Valves with CANOpen Fieldbus Interface

Fieldbus systems were established some time ago in the industry, but proportional valves with fieldbus interfaces have not been available in the past. Fieldbus systems were developed to replace analogue techniques, where various industry standards exists. The counterpart to these industry standards are open fieldbus systems. In addition to the fieldbus standards, device profiles for proportional valves are required. These are currently under development by a group of hydraulics manufacturers.
